    Dr. Fabrizio and Dr. Cabrini stay in LaSIE for research collaboration between Osaka University and ELETTRA, Italy for about 3 weeks from 3 March 2005. They gave a lecture, "Cross beam lithography from nanometric structures," in LaSIE seminar on 11 April 2005. (4/19/2005)

  • Prof. Yung Doug Suh and Ki-Seok Joen stayed in LaSIE
    Prof. Suh and Joen stayed in LaSIE for research collaboration on nearfield optics. Prof. Suh gave a lecture, "Nano Raman Spectroscopy," in LaSIE Seminar on 28 March 2005. Joen stayed with us to do experiments on nearfield optics for about 4 weeks from 7 March 2005. (4/19/2005)

  • Sad news
    Professor Osamu Nakamura has passed away at 5:07 on 23 January 2005 at Handai hospital. His funeral was held at Senri Kaikan Osaka on 25 January.

    Mr. Sun Zhengbin and Ms. Dong Xianzi from Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences have stayed from February 24. They study about photo-fabrication methods in LaSIE. (2/28/2005)

  • Opening ceremony for Handai Museum
    The opening ceremony for Handai Museum was held from Oct. 12 through 20 at the atrium of NHK Osaka. Posters were exhibited which showed research activities of 20 laboratories in our university.     Vincent Daria (University of the Philippines) will stay in LaSIE from Jan. 2000 as a guest researcher, and work with us for six months.

  • Optics Japan '99 in OSAKA
    Optics Japan '99, an annual conference on optics and applied optics by the Optical Society of Japan, was held on November 23-25, 1999 at Convention Center, Osaka University. Prof. Kawata was appointed as a chair of the conference.

  • Daniel Day's stay in LaSIE
    Daniel Day (Victoria University of Technology, Australia) stays in LaSIE from Nov. 1999 to Apl. 2000 under the International Exchange Program of Students between Osaka University, Japan, and Victoria University.

  • Symposium on Near-field Nano-optics
    Symposium on "Near-field Nano-optics; Future Progress toward the 21st Century" was held on November 10, 1999 at Senri Life Science Center, Osaka under NFNO project. Prof. Kawata and Dr. Nakamura will give a talk.

    Dr. Ulrich Fischer (University of Muenster, Germany) visited LaSIE with His leading works on the near-field optical microscope. He presented recent activities at Kyoto Symposium of NFNO project on Jan 21, 1999.

  • Nick Smith's stay in LaSIE
    Mr. Nick Smith (The University of Sydney) stayed in LaSIE from Sep to Dec, 1998. He made experiments related to nano-fabrications with optical method.

    Mr. Vincent Ricardo Daria (University of Philippines) stayed at LaSIE from Sep 1998 under Ronpaku program supported by JSPS.

  • Pu-Chun Ke's stay in LaSIE
    Mr. Pu-Chun Ke (Victoria University of Technology) visited LaSIE from Oct 1998 and stayed for 2 months. He made some good experiments on laser trapping.

  • Prof Zhu Xing visited LaSIE
    Prof Zhu Xing (Peking University) visited for the NFO-5 conference as an invited speaker. After the conference he visited LaSIE on Dec.12 and joined to exciting discussions on near-field optics.

  • NFO-5 was held in Shirahama!
    NFO-5 (The 5th International Conference on Near Field Optics and Related Techniques) was held at Coganoi Bay Hotel in Shirahama, Wakayama prefecture. Prof. Satoshi Kawata is the general chair of this conference. This conference was mainly organized by LaSIE members. 365 participants (including 139 from overseas) attended the NFO-5.

  • Prof Ming Hai's stay in LaSIE
    Prof. Ming Hai visited LaSIE on Nov 13, 1998 and stayed until Dec 12. During his stay, he gave a talk entitled 'Several types of novel fiber probes for scanning near-field optical microscopy' in LaSIE seminar.

  • JSPS and DFG International Workshop was held.
    "JSPS and DFG International Workshop by Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research" was held on September 2-3, 1998.

  • Prof. Knoll and his group members visited
    Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Knoll (Max-Planck-Institut fuer Polymerforschung, Mainz, Germany) and 4 members (Dr. Silvia Mitter-Neher, Mr. Gerd Kleideiter, Mr. Stefan Busse, Mr. Maximilian Kreiter) visited LaSIE on Sep. 2-3 for the International Joint Workshop.

  • Hayazawa-kun in UP Diliman
    Norihiko Hayazawa, a Ph.D course student, departed for Philippines. He stayed for 10 months and studied at the University of the Philippines under the International Exchange Program of Students between Osaka University, Japan, and University of Philippines. Katsumasa Fujita of LaSIE and Vince of UP had the same program in 1997.

    Prof. Daniel Courjon came to LaSIE from CNRS, France.
    He is the pioneer in the research of NSOM (Near-Field Scanning Optical Microscopy).
    He will give us lecture in LaSIE Seminar on July 2nd. He is also invited to JNFO6 on July 3rd as a special speaker.
    He will stay in Osaka until 7th July.
