Location and Access

The town of Shirahama (White Beach in Japanese) is a famous resort area in Japan on the Pacific Ocean with cliffs, beaches and hot springs. It is known for its seafood, various ocean delights and sunshine. Shirahama is 200 km South from Osaka, the second largest city in Japan.

1) Limousine bus services from KIX Bus Terminal No. 3 to Shirahama Bus Center.

***A limousine bus service from Kansai Int'l Air port to Coganoi Bay Hotel will be arranged for the late arrivals on December 6 based on demand.

A bus ticket costs 3,500 yen.

Taxi service from Shirahama Bus Center to Coganoi Bay Hotel costs approximately 850 yen.

Shuttle Bus service will be available from Shirahama Bus Center to Coganoi Bay Hotel on December 6.

2) Japan Railway services (JR) from KIX to JR Shirahama St.

2.1) Take the local train from KIX JR station to Hineno St. which takes 10 minutes.

2.2) Change the train to the limited express called, "Kuroshio", "Super Kuroshio" or "Ocean Arrow" which is available until 20:00.

A train ticket costs 4,600 yen (rapid fare + normal ticket). It takes 2 hours from Hineno St. to Shirahama St. For more information, please seethe JR website at

The taxi fare from JR Shirahama St. to Coganoi Bay Hotel is approximately 1,300 yen.

Shuttle Bus services will be available from JR Shirahama St. to Coganoi Bay Hotel on December 6.

From Downtown Osaka

JR Shin-Osaka St. to Shirahama St.

The limited express, "Kuroshio", "Super Kuroshio", or "Ocean Arrow", takes you directly to Shirahama St. in 2 hours and 30 min utes. It is available until 20:00 (every hour).

From Narita Int'l Airport in Tokyo

Narita Int'l Airport - Haneda Domestic Airport - Shirahama Airport

1) Take the Shuttle bus from Narita Int'l Airport to Haneda Domestic Airport (every 15-20 minutes) which takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. A ticket costs 3,000 yen.

The domestic airlines would suggest you to have at least 3 hours interval after you arrive at Narita Int'l Airport for transferring to Haneda Domestic Air port.

Climate and Dress

The weather in December is usually moderate to cool, with an average daytime temperature of 15 degrees centigrade and night time temperature of 7 degrees centigrade. Jackets and sweaters will be necessary. Participants, who will visit other cities (e.g. Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto), will need heavier coats for those cities. A free light-weight jacket will be provided every participant for windy weather.

Exchange Information

US dollars can be exchanged into Japanese yen at Coganoi Bay Hotel, but not other currencies. We suggest you prepare Japanese yen in advance.
